The Church gets down to a little business

Every year in January the church holds the Annual Meeting. Among other business, a revision to the by-laws was reviewed and voted on. Of Course our business always begins with food! Here are some of the smiling faces!

A Visit from Dr. Thomas Richard, Ex. Sec. of National Association of Congregational Christian Churches

Dr. Thomas Richard of the NACCC paid our congregation a visit on July 19, 2009. He preached the message of the day for our joint service with the United Methodist Church and the Episcopal Church. He also brought us good tidings from the National Association as he presented us with our certificate of membership to the NACCC.
A pot luck lunch followed to allow the congregation to meet and greet him.

Redoing the walls in the basement

The congregation put a lot of work into refurbishing Fellowship Hall. Now it is time to turn our attention to our basement area. This area gets a lot of use from the Boy Scouts. It is beginning to show a handsome side to those who pass through!

Many holes in the walls had to be repaired

There were many broken spots in the walls. Bob McConnell did a terrific job patching and repairing.

Donna and Larry stained all the wainscoting.
Bob is the expert at putting it up!

Bob McConnell did most of the work with the help of a few others.

It is beginning to look great. Phyllis and Bev helped Bob with some of the painting.

One wall almost done!

            Beautiful!

 Remodeling of the basement restroom

The trustees hired a contractor to remodel the two dark and out-of-date restrooms in the basement area. The restroom is now a unisex restroom with all new fixtures and flooring and ceiling.  The floor was leveled to make the room handicap accessible.

Here is what the room looks like after the old is stripped away. Notice the inside of the cobblestone foundation of the church!

The room is stripped to make it ready for the new

The finished restroom is light and roomy. A wonderful improvement to the basement area! You have to walk in it to fully appreciate the change.

 Choir Rehearsal

Choir Rehearsal

We look so angelic behaving and paying attention. Well, sometimes we are talking and laughing and telling stories and Beth is so patient with us. We do have a great time together and enjoy singing.

Progressive Dinner June 12, 2010

On June 12th several folks gathered together for a progressiv e dinner. We began the evening at the home of Marilyn Shafer and Mary Gliewe. We enjoyed a warm spinach-artichoke dip and a cold spinach dip. Marilyn's cats were curious and stayed right in the midst of things!

Hmmm, I see nothing I like!

No pate de foie gras? (geese liver to you)

Bob, Jan, Mona and Mick enjoy conversation

Mary and Alice ask Sandy if the appetizer is good. "Yummy" is the answer

The cat checks out Bob and Mick

The next stop took us to Bev Clark's home. She treated us to 3 delicious salads, a tossed salad, a blueberry salad and a bean and corn salad.

Bev greets us in her lovely kitchen

Joan, Jan and Alice chit chat after the salads

The main course was served at the church in Fellowship Hall. The meal was prepared by Phyllis and Jim and Jan and Bob. The menu included baked potatos, green beans almandine and baked chicken breasts.

Our final stop for the evening was at Jacquie Walter's home for dessert of Italian ices and homemade cannolies.

Alice, Bob, Jim and Mona share a laugh

Now it is time for a little activity after all that great food! Jim led us in a rousing game of Yankee Trade-off. You just don't realize what treasures you can get at the dollar store! But, don't be to happy with your choice--someone is sure to steal it and you may end up with that can of 3 bean salad!

Jim gives everyone a number that allows them to choose a gift. Bob, Alice and Bob are ready.

It looks as though Marilyn has already spotted the gift for her.

Jim is calling numbers fast and furious and the bargining gets hot

Oh look, Jan has a niffty lunch bag! And it is even insulated! Wow!

Mick has the 3 bean salad. Mona in her googly eyes grabs it, but doesn't know what it is. Will Mick get to keep that 3 bean salad?

Marilyn is hiding something behind her back! Something she doesn't want to lose!

Many trades back and forth. Bob ended up with that 3 bean salad. Marilyn got to keep her puzzle book. And Beth grabbed those googly eyes from Mona. Very fetching don't you think?

We truely enjoyed our evening together. Fellowship is an important component of our Christian life together. We look forward to more events in the future.
