 Arianna's Baptism June 1, 2008

Celebrating the sacrament of Baptism is a joyous event in the church life. It  marks the acceptance of the infant or any who are not baptised into the care of Christ's church. We rejoice in the baptism of Arianna and her mother Juli.

Decorating the church for the Christmas season is a group effort. There is good fellowship as everyone does their part to make the church look and feel festive. The Christmas Tree was moved to Fellowship Hall this year and was enjoyed during all the coffee hours! The angel tree was also there. Thank you to all who purchased gifts for families in the community!

 Blessings Sunday

Blessings Sunday was held November 11, 2007. We enjoyed beautiful violin music of Margaret Murphy who was supported by her husband, David. Following the service we enjoyed a pot luck luncheon. Ceara and Rachel would like to start with dessert! Jim Rechtin served as our emcee and encouraged us to share with the others the blessings we received over the past year.

Pie Baking at the Church November 2007

The church has a pie and canned jams and jellies table at the annual Holiday Bazaar on November 17, 2007.  The pie bake at the church provided 60 some pies and we had a lot of fun baking together. And several other folks baked at home to provide holiday pies for sale. Thanks to everyone who made the sale a sold-out success.

Church picnic at the Hall's

Joan and Bill Hall held a church picnic at their beautiful grounds on August 18, 2007. They have many (I forget the number) acres of hills, meadows and valleys. Beautiful and relaxing as we walked along the trail. This was a pot luck dinner and we never worry about not having enough to eat. Everything was delicious! As the sun set in the west a few of us stayed for a campfire. We inched our chairs closer and closer to the fire because it was quite a cool night! Great fun!

A stroll in the woods!

Most of us walked with Joan on a hike

More Renovations of Fellowship Hall

For over a year we have been renovating our Fellowship Hall. In 1862, 26 years after the current sanctuary was built, this building was built for Sunday school. At that time the sanctuary and the Sunday School (now known as Fellowship Hall) were seperate buildings. In 1957 a new addition was built connecting the two buildings and adding office space and new class rooms.  The interior has been upgraded with new curtains, ceiling fans and painting. Broken window panes have been replaced and the outer windows are repointed. Plexiglas covering has been added to help with heating costs. The congregation voted to side the Fellowship Hall and the connecting building with vinyl siding. At the same time insulation was blown in to decrease the heating costs of the building.

We are excited that we are coming to the completion of this major project. The willing hands of so many of our members and friends have made this possible. Thank you to all who put so much time, energy and love to work.

 Bloomfield History Days August 8, 9, 10, 2008

Bloomfield History Days was held August 8, 9 and 10, 2008. The Bloomfield Historic Society did a fantastic job making the event very special. Abe Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln were portrayed realistically by Chicago Actors. Joining with the United Methodist choir our choir sang patriotic hymns to the gathered crowd as they awaited the arrival of the president for the rededication of the Civil War statue in Elton Park. These events were moving and brought the participator into history more than any book or writing could do. Well done Historic Society and thank you!!

Bloomfield's Civil War Monument holds the nams of all those who gave their lives for this Union. The rededication took place during Bloomfield History Days August 8, 9, 10, 2008.

Interesting comments found in the Smithsonian American Art Museum

"The monument was erected by the Town and citizens of East Bloomfield for $6,000. The Town contributed $1,000 and the remainder was raised through public subscription by the ladies of the Congregational Church."  (The Congregational women: always active, always involved!)

Following the ceremony the church offered food for sale

The First Congregational Church offered Ice Cream Novelties, homebaked goodies and lemonade for sale.
